Server Registration

On February 4, 2022, President de la Torre approved the Information technology Server Security Policy, in support of CSU Policy ICSUAM 8050 - Configuration Management.

Purpose

The policy establishes the server configuration management framework for San Diego State University (SDSU) servers to ensure security, reliability, and the coordination of technical operations.

Applicability

A server is defined as a physical or virtual device that provides a specific type of service on behalf of another computer or computer user (i.e., a client).

All employees, which consist of faculty, staff, contractors, consultants, temporary, and other workers at SDSU, must adhere to this policy. This policy also applies to all SDSU servers including those deployed and managed by SDSU Research Foundation, research labs/programs, Centers, and other SDSU Auxiliaries such as Aztec Shops, KPBS, and Associated Students.

Server Registration Process Overview

Server owners and/or server administrators are requested to register the server according to the timeframe outlined below:

  • Existing servers purchased prior to Monday, January 31, 2022 should be registered no later than DATE TBD.
  • New servers requested to be purchased after Monday, January 31, 2022 should be registered no later than 60 days. The 60-day timeline initiates when the server build is started.

Servers must be registered by completing the ServiceNow Server Registration Form. At a minimum, the following information is  required to positively identify the point of contact and server:

  • Department
  • Server Contact(s)
  • Server Location
  • Operating System Version
  • MAC and IP Addresses
  • Asset Tag
  • Main Functions and Applications
  • Type of data transmitted (PL 1 and/or PL 2), stored, and processed in accordance with the CSU Information Security Data Classification.
