A strong password is your first line of defense against cyber threats. Password management is essential in protecting against unauthorized access to your digital accounts and sensitive information. A good password management strategy involves creating strong, unique passwords for each account/application and securely managing them.

SDSU's Password Management Solution

SDSU IT has partnered with 1Password, a leading password manager. 1Password offers secure storage for passwords and sensitive information, and uses reliable, robust encryption across all your devices.

1Password can:

  • Generate and suggest new, unique passwords for you
  • Automatically save passwords, PINs, and login details for each website/application
  • Autofill logins, credit cards, addresses, and identities into web forms
  • Securely share items like passwords, credit cards, or documents with colleagues through shared vaults
  • Always monitor your data online to notify you of any security risks
  • Protect you and your family online with a free 1Password Families account

Training

The IT Security Office does provide pre-recording training videos that cover best practices in creating and managing passwords, understanding the importance of password security, and using password management tools. Are you eligible?

All IT staff are encouraged to use 1Password to manage their university-related and personal passwords.

Cost

1Password is provided to all IT professionals at SDSU free of charge.

Get Started

Submit a ServiceNow request to request a 1password account. The IT Security Office will send you a 1Password invitation. You can set up your 1Password account through the 1Password invitation email in your work email inbox. Click the invite and follow the instructions to be fully set up.
