Domain Name Service

Please review the SDSU Computing Acceptable Use policies before registering your machine. Examples of unacceptable use include, but are not limited to, hosting personal websites and unauthorized non-University commercial activities.

Domain Name Service Guidelines

Use
Domain name service for sdsu.edu is for University related functions only. Service is subject to approval by the IT Security Office.

Hostnames
Whenever possible, hostnames should reflect its purpose, department, or owner. The name must be as specific as possible to avoid conflicts with other departments or groups on campus.

Ownership
Domain name registration requests should be submitted by the department's IT administrator. If the department does not have an IT administrator, an SDSU faculty or staff member may submit the request. Student organizations are required to have a SDSU faculty or staff sponsor to take ownership of the hostname. The hostname owner:

  • Will be personally responsible for all use of hostname, include any abuse.
  • Will be the main contact point this host

The IT Security Office has the right to deny, suspend, or revoke domain name service at any time.
